Frequently Asked Questions
The Australian Mould Index is a daily measurement that indicates the likelihood of mould growth in your area based on weather conditions. It considers temperature, humidity, rainfall, and dew point to calculate risk levels from LOW to EXTREME.
Our index uses real-time weather data from the Bureau of Meteorology combined with scientifically validated mould growth models. While highly accurate for general risk assessment, local conditions in your specific property may vary based on ventilation, insulation, and other factors.
We currently cover major Australian cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, and Canberra.

LOW (1-3): Minimal risk, normal precautions. MODERATE (3-5): Some risk, maintain ventilation. HIGH (5-7): Elevated risk, run dehumidifiers. VERY HIGH (7-9): Significant risk, take active measures. EXTREME (9-10): Critical risk, maximum prevention needed.
On HIGH risk days: Run dehumidifiers in damp areas, keep exhaust fans running during and after showers, ensure windows are opened for cross-ventilation, avoid drying clothes indoors, check for water leaks, and monitor humidity levels in problem areas.
Mould growth is heavily influenced by weather conditions. Changes in temperature, humidity, rainfall, and dew point all affect how easily mould can establish and spread. Our index updates daily to reflect current conditions.
All weather data is sourced from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), the official government weather service. We update our data regularly to ensure accuracy.
